What is Marmoleum?Marmoleum is a trademark owned by Forbo Flooring Systems, made right here in the UK. It is branded linoleum. Forbo has been making linoleum for more than 100 years and the process has hardly changed except for improvements in the colour range. Marmoleum got its name from combining the words 'Marbleized Linoleum'. |
What is linoleum?Linoleum also known as 'lino' is made from natural, renewable materials - solidified linseed oil (linoxyn), pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate. It is environmentally friendly flooring with a long lifespan - in the right conditions up to 40 years. At at the end of it's life-cycle it can be completely recycled. |
Expert Marmoleum fittingWhile Marmoleum is durable and long lasting, it can be one of the most unforgiving flooring surfaces to fit. It is brittle until it is stuck to the floor, requires a very flat resilient sub-floor and often needs to be cut to a template around baths, toilets and sink pedestals. Best left to an expert. Our Linoleum installers have fitted Marmoleum in homes, hotels, theatres and offices. |

Marmoleum Flooring – Frequently Asked Questions1) What is Marmoleum?Marmoleum is a natural linoleum made from linseed oil, wood flour, jute and limestone. It’s durable, hygienic, eco-friendly and available in hundreds of colours for homes and commercial spaces. 2) How is Marmoleum fitted? We template accurately, adhere to a perfectly smoothed subfloor, and heat-weld seams for a watertight, seamless finish. 3) Why does Marmoleum need special subfloor prep?Because it’s thin and flexible, any imperfection telegraphs through. We prime appropriately and apply a latex smoothing compound over plywood or concrete so the surface is clean, dry, smooth and level. 4) Why is Marmoleum more expensive to fit?It requires extensive subfloor preparation, precise templating and on-site heat welding. That extra skill, time and material makes fitting costlier than basic vinyl or carpet. 5) Do you fit out of hours or at weekends?Yes. We regularly install out of hours to minimise disruption for homes, offices and commercial sites. 6) How do you handle joins and seams? We use the double-cut method for perfect edges, then heat-weld with colour-matched rod to create a strong, near-invisible seam. 7) Fit Marmoleum before or after a kitchen install? Before is best for a continuous floor under units. We can fit after, but it takes longer and costs more due to detailed cutting around fixed cabinetry. 8) How long does installation take?Small rooms (e.g., a kitchen or hallway) often take 1–2 days including prep. Multi-room or complex projects may take 3–5 days. We confirm timelines after survey. 9) What maintenance does Marmoleum need?Low maintenance: regular vacuum/sweep and damp mop with a neutral cleaner. We can apply a protective finish to make cleaning even easier. 10) Can Marmoleum be repaired or refinished?Yes. Local damage can be cut out and replaced; surfaces can be lightly sanded and re-sealed to refresh the finish. |
