The processCome and visit us or we will come to you. We measure the flights of stairs, bring samples and discuss your requirements. At this stage many of our designer and architect clients will provide us with a design. After calculating the costs, we will then send you a quote for the project. |
Post quoteOnce you have accepted the quote and depending on the complexity of the design and the staircase (stripes and winding stairs for example), we will return to the property to build a template. The carpet is then ordered, cut to size, whipped and bound to seal the edges or a border tape is stitched on. The runner is then carefully checked for defects and delivered to site. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between whipping, binding and border tape for runner edges?
Whipping and binding both seal the edges of your stair runner to prevent fraying. Whipping uses an overlock stitch around the raw edge, while binding wraps fabric tape around the edge. Border tape is a decorative fabric strip that's stitched onto the runner, adding both protection and a design element. We can help you choose the best edge finish based on your carpet type and aesthetic preferences.
How long does it take from quote to installation?
After you accept the quote, we return to create a template for complex designs or winding stairs. The carpet is then ordered, cut to size, and edges are finished with whipping, binding, or border tape. Depending on carpet availability and design complexity, the process typically takes 2-4 weeks from quote acceptance to installation.
Can you fit stair runners on winding or spiral staircases?
Yes! We specialize in unusual and complex staircases including winding stairs and spiral staircases. For these installations, we create a custom template to ensure a perfect fit. Our experienced fitters are trained to handle even the most challenging staircase configurations.
What types of carpet can be used for stair runners?
We create stair runners from all types of carpet including natural fibres (sisal, seagrass, coir, jute), wool, flat-weave carpets, patterned Wilton carpets, and modern synthetic options. We also install branded runners from Roger Oates and Louis De Poortere. During your consultation, we'll bring samples to help you choose the perfect material for your stairs.
Do you only fit runners you supply, or can you install my own carpet?
While we primarily fit the runners we supply and create, we do offer a fit-only service for clients who have their own carpet or have purchased a special imported runner. Our floor layers are trained and accredited with many years of experience, making them some of the finest stair runner installers in London.
