Stair runners — Wimbledon SW19
Bespoke stair runners made right here in Wimbledon.
Cavendish deVere is based in Wimbledon — our workshop is on Deer Park Road — so Wimbledon is quite literally where every runner we make begins its journey, wherever in London it ends up. That means faster sample delivery, faster templating visits, and a level of local knowledge — the grand Edwardian houses of Wimbledon Village, the Edwardian semis of Raynes Park, the newer apartments nearer the town centre — that only comes from working here for over a decade.

Faux Sisal & Full Staircase Carpet
One recent Wimbledon job covered four separate landings and three flights of stairs in a hard-wearing faux sisal — over 47m² in total, precisely measured landing by landing. It's not always a narrow bordered runner that's called for; sometimes, especially on larger multi-storey Wimbledon houses, a full-width faux sisal across the whole staircase is the right practical answer, and we're just as at home fitting that as we are a bespoke bordered runner.
Sisal Bouclé & Contrast Border
Wimbledon Village's large Victorian and Edwardian houses, with their generous hallways and substantial staircases, are exactly the kind of property where a bespoke bordered runner earns its keep — wool bouclé with a contrasting cotton border is consistently popular here. A runner doesn't need to be the most expensive option in our range to look and perform beautifully, and we bring the same care to a modest Raynes Park semi as we do to the grandest Village house.

Every runner has a story.
We've fitted hundreds of stair runners and staircases across London, and we write up many of the more interesting ones on our blog — the fabric hunts, the tricky winders, the rescues, including this Wimbledon job just down the road from our own workshop. Have a flick through our stair runner project archive to see the range of what's possible.
If you'd like to see the full range of designs available before you commit to a material, our sister company Fenston Carter stocks a much wider selection than we can show on this page — a few examples shown here, or browse the full stair runner collection for inspiration.
Edge finishes
Cotton borders
& edge finishes.
Not every Wimbledon staircase is straightforward — one recent job had an open stringer on the second flight, meaning the raw carpet edge had to be meticulously tucked under by hand to create a seamless finish, with the client involved at every step to confirm the result before we moved on. That same attention applies to a bordered runner: a contrasting cotton border — navy on neutral bouclé, charcoal on pale sisal — turns a good runner into something genuinely bespoke. We stitch all borders in our Wimbledon workshop and check every seam before the runner leaves for installation.
We also supply and install premium branded runners including Roger Oates, Louis De Poortere and Alternative Flooring for Wimbledon clients who have specified a particular brand.
Process

Estimate
It's really as simple as sending in a short video of your staircase via WhatsApp, with any dimensions you have and what type of runner you have in mind. We come back with a detailed estimate inside 24 hours on a weekday — no site visit required.
Samples & spec
Once you accept, we can send samples in the post or bring them to your Wimbledon home so you see the carpet in your own light — or better yet, pop into our Deer Park Road workshop and see them in person. We confirm material, pile, width and edge finish, or work from your designer's spec.
Templating
For winders, tight curves or unusual staircases, we return to build paper templates of every step. Non-negotiable on complex jobs — it's what guarantees the fit.
Make & install
The runner is cut, shaped and edge-finished in our Wimbledon workshop, every seam inspected before it leaves, then fitted at a time that suits you — including evenings and weekends.
Indicative pricing
What does a bespoke stair runner cost in Wimbledon?
Polypropylene, whipped
from £800
Supply and fit, standard straight staircase, 13 steps.
Wool or wool bouclé
from £1,000
Same staircase, upgraded to wool or wool bouclé.
Sisal / seagrass, whipped
from £1,200
Same staircase, upgraded to natural sisal or seagrass.
Adding a decorative cotton border increases the cost depending on the tape chosen. Staircases with winders involve additional templating time; two-flight staircases are priced proportionally. Premium materials — Roger Oates flatweave, patterned Wilton, wool bouclé with a herringbone border — carry a higher material cost and reflect the quality of finish most Wimbledon clients expect. There is no premium for our location — you pay for the runner and the installation, not our postcode, even though it happens to be ours too.
