LVT Flooring Installation for New Veterinary Surgery in Twickenham
There’s something rather enjoyable about venturing out to the leafier suburbs of West London, and our recent trip to Twickenham was no exception. This time, we were delighted to be working with a well-established veterinary practice that is expanding with a brand new branch in the area. As a trusted LVT floor installer Twickenham, we were brought in to complete the first phase of what promises to be an ongoing flooring project for this exciting new premises.
Why LVT is Perfect for Veterinary Practices
When it comes to flooring for veterinary surgeries and animal clinics, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is an exceptional choice. The demands placed on flooring in these environments are considerable – from muddy paws and pet accidents to heavy foot traffic and rigorous cleaning regimes. LVT flooring rises to meet all of these challenges with remarkable ease.
The waterproof nature of LVT makes it ideal for spaces where spills and accidents are inevitable. Its durability ensures it can withstand the constant movement of staff, clients, and their furry companions without showing premature wear. Additionally, the smooth, non-porous surface allows for thorough cleaning and disinfection – an absolute necessity in any healthcare setting, whether for humans or animals.
The Project Scope
This first phase focused primarily on the reception area, which serves as the welcoming face of the practice. As any experienced Luxury Vinyl Tiles fitter London will tell you, the reception of any business is critical – it’s where first impressions are made, and the flooring plays a significant role in establishing the overall aesthetic and feel of the space.
Although this was a relatively straightforward LVT installation, achieving a flawless finish required our usual meticulous approach to subfloor preparation and installation techniques. Here’s a detailed look at how we approached this project.
Subfloor Preparation: The Foundation of Success
Any professional flooring installation begins with thorough subfloor preparation, and this project was no different. We started by applying primer to the entire subfloor area, ensuring complete and even coverage before allowing it to dry fully. This crucial step helps to seal the subfloor, improving adhesion and preventing potential moisture issues that could compromise the installation down the line.
Once the primer had cured, we proceeded to apply screed across the subfloor areas. Screeding is essential for creating a level base, particularly in commercial settings where even minor imperfections can lead to problems over time. We allowed the screed to cure for between 24 and 48 hours – patience at this stage is absolutely vital for achieving optimal results.
Creating the Perfect Surface
Following the screeding process, we applied a feather finish to the floor. This fine-textured compound allows us to address any remaining minor irregularities in the surface. Once applied, we carefully sanded the feather finish to create an impeccably smooth, flat surface – the ideal canvas for LVT installation.
As can be seen in our project photographs, the prepared subfloor presented a uniform, professional finish that was ready to receive the new flooring. This level of preparation might seem excessive to some, but it’s precisely this attention to detail that separates a good installation from a truly excellent one.
The Installation Process
With our subfloor preparation complete, we turned our attention to the LVT installation itself. We began by carefully setting out the flooring and establishing our ping lines – these reference lines ensure that the flooring is installed in perfect alignment throughout the space, creating clean, professional-looking results.
For the reception area, we applied F46 adhesive to the subfloor. This high-quality adhesive provides excellent grip and long-lasting bond strength, which is essential in high-traffic commercial environments. We then proceeded to cut and fit the LVT flooring throughout the entire reception area, taking care to achieve tight, seamless joints throughout.
Attention to Detail
One aspect of this installation that required particular care was fitting the vinyl flooring to the upstands. These vertical surfaces where the floor meets the walls needed to be addressed with precision, using appropriate adhesive to ensure a secure, professional finish. This detail work might seem minor, but it’s essential for creating a truly polished end result that will stand the test of time.
The Finished Result
Upon completion, the new veterinary surgery reception boasted a stunning, practical floor that perfectly complemented the modern, welcoming atmosphere the practice was aiming to achieve. The wood-effect LVT planks provide the warmth and visual appeal of natural timber whilst offering the practical benefits that make them so suitable for this demanding environment.
As always, we ensured that the site was thoroughly cleaned and cleared upon completion, leaving our clients with a space that was ready for the next phase of their fit-out works.
Looking Ahead
This first phase marks the beginning of what we anticipate will be a productive ongoing relationship with this veterinary practice. With additional flooring work planned as the new branch continues to take shape, we’re pleased to have established ourselves as their trusted flooring partner.
