Elegant Amtico Herringbone Installation in Streatham SW16 – April 2025

On a warm spring day in April 2025, our team had the pleasure of completing a beautiful flooring project in a charming bedroom in Streatham, South West London (SW16). The client had selected a standout product — Amtico Signature in Merbau (AR0W7590) — and the result was a sleek, stylish herringbone finish that perfectly complemented the character of the property.

Project Overview

This bedroom installation required a meticulous approach to subfloor preparation to ensure a flawless final result. With no old flooring to remove and the room cleared in advance, we were able to begin right away, starting with the essential groundwork.

We first cut and fitted high-quality plyboard to stabilise the subfloor, creating the ideal base for the layers to come. This was followed by the application of primer and screed, which were allowed to dry thoroughly before being expertly sanded. To finish the preparation stage, we applied a feather finish compound, ensuring a perfectly smooth and level surface ready for the Amtico planks.

The Flooring: Amtico Signature Merbau

For this project, the client chose from the premium Amtico Signature range, opting for Merbau AR0W7590, a rich and timeless design that brings warmth and elegance to any space. The plank dimensions of 76.2 x 914.4mm allowed us to craft a detailed and striking herringbone pattern — a classic layout that continues to be popular in both traditional and contemporary homes.

Using specialist adhesives and precise measuring, we laid each plank with care, building a consistent and balanced layout across the bedroom floor. The natural tone variations in the Merbau design added depth and sophistication to the space, especially with the changing light throughout the day.

Finishing Touches

Once the installation was complete, we carefully cleaned the site, removed any residual materials, and carried out a final inspection to ensure the finish was absolutely perfect. The bedroom was transformed — visually larger, lighter, and far more luxurious underfoot.
