Stunning Tarkett Linoleum Blossom Installation Transforms East Dulwich Kitchen

There’s something rather special about completing a flooring installation during a glorious English summer. The warm sunlight streaming through the windows, the pleasant working conditions, and the way natural light reveals every detail of a beautifully finished floor—it all comes together to create a genuinely satisfying project. Our recent linoleum installation in East Dulwich was precisely one of those jobs, and we’re thrilled to share the results.

Choosing Tarkett: A Hidden Gem in the Linoleum World

When it comes to linoleum flooring, Forbo tends to dominate the conversation. They’ve established themselves as the go-to manufacturer, and for good reason—their stock levels and distribution network are impressive. However, this particular project reminded us why it’s always worth looking beyond the obvious choices. Our client had their heart set on Tarkett Linoleum Blossom, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with their selection.

Tarkett may not enjoy the same market presence as Forbo, largely due to more limited stock availability, but their design range is genuinely impressive. In fact, their collection is surprisingly large, featuring colours and patterns that often feel fresher and more contemporary than their competitors. The Blossom shade chosen for this East Dulwich kitchen is a perfect example—a warm, soft pink tone that brings a subtle yet distinctive character to the space. If you’re exploring Tarkett’s offerings, their Tarkett Veneto Linoleum range also offers excellent options for those seeking quality natural flooring.

The Foundation of Excellence: Subfloor Preparation

As with every linoleum installation we undertake, proper subfloor preparation was absolutely essential. Linoleum is an unforgiving material—any imperfections in the subfloor will telegraph through to the finished surface, creating an unsatisfactory result that no amount of skilled fitting can disguise.

For this project, we built the subfloor from scratch, ensuring a perfectly smooth and level base for the linoleum to adhere to. This process involves several stages:

  • Thorough assessment of the existing floor structure
  • Installation of appropriate underlayment materials
  • Careful levelling using quality compounds
  • Final smoothing and preparation for adhesive application

It’s painstaking work, but it’s what separates a professional installation from a mediocre one. When you’re working with a premium product like Tarkett linoleum, cutting corners at the preparation stage simply isn’t an option.

Precision Templating for a Perfect Fit

Once the subfloor was ready, we moved on to templating—a crucial step that ensures every cut is accurate and every edge sits precisely where it should. Kitchen installations present particular challenges, with their cabinet units, island features, and various protrusions requiring careful attention.

This East Dulwich kitchen featured beautiful bespoke oak cabinetry, including a substantial island unit that demanded precise fitting around its base. Our templating process involves creating accurate patterns of the entire floor area, accounting for every obstacle and ensuring the finished linoleum flows seamlessly throughout the space. Modern flooring projects like this benefit enormously from efficient planning, and many suppliers now use sophisticated Supplier inventory software to manage their stock and ensure materials arrive on site when needed.

The Installation Process

With templates prepared and the linoleum acclimatised to the room’s temperature and humidity, installation day arrived. Working in the beautiful summer light made the process particularly enjoyable—there’s nothing quite like fitting flooring when warm sunshine fills the room and everyone’s spirits are high.

The Tarkett Linoleum Blossom was carefully cut according to our templates, then bonded to the prepared subfloor using appropriate adhesive. Linoleum installation requires patience and precision; each section must be properly rolled to ensure complete contact with the adhesive and eliminate any air pockets that could cause problems later.

Seams were welded using colour-matched welding rod, creating virtually invisible joins that maintain the floor’s integrity and hygiene. This heat-welding process is essential in kitchen environments, where spills and cleaning are daily occurrences.

The Finished Result: Bathed in Summer Light

The completed installation is, quite simply, stunning. The soft Blossom pink creates a wonderfully warm atmosphere in the kitchen, complementing the natural oak cabinetry beautifully. With summer sunlight pouring through the windows, the floor almost seems to glow, bringing a sense of joy and warmth to the entire space.

Most importantly, our client is absolutely delighted with the result. That’s always our primary measure of success—delivering a floor that exceeds expectations and brings genuine pleasure to those who’ll live with it every day.

Why Consider Tarkett for Your Next Project?

This project reinforced our appreciation for Tarkett as a linoleum manufacturer. While they may not have the same market presence as larger competitors, their product quality is exceptional, and their design range offers something genuinely different. If you’re planning a linoleum installation and want a colour or pattern that stands out from the crowd, Tarkett is well worth exploring.

Linoleum itself remains an outstanding choice for kitchens and living spaces. Made from natural materials including linseed oil, wood flour, and jute, it’s sustainable, durable, and naturally antibacterial. With proper care, a quality linoleum floor will serve beautifully for decades.

If you’re considering linoleum for your home or commercial space, do get in touch. We’d be delighted to discuss your project and help you discover whether Tarkett—or indeed any other quality manufacturer—might be the perfect choice for your floors.
