Striking Berlin Red Marmoleum Installation in Bromley-by-Bow

There’s something rather special about arriving at a job site on a crisp spring morning with sunshine streaming through the windows. Our recent lino flooring Bromley By Bow project was one of those days—bright, clear, and perfect for showcasing just how stunning a bold colour choice can look in a contemporary living space.

A Bold Colour Choice That Commands Attention

When our client first mentioned they wanted something distinctive for their E3 property, we knew exactly where to point them. The Buy Forbo Walton Berlin Red is a colour that divides opinion—you either love it or you’re simply not brave enough for it. Our client fell firmly into the first category, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with their choice.

This rich, earthy terracotta shade has a warmth that brings incredible character to any room. As you can see from the photographs, the way natural light plays across the surface creates subtle variations throughout the day, transforming the space from morning to evening.

The Cavendish deVere Preparation Process

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from fitting hundreds of marmoleum floors across London, it’s that preparation is absolutely everything. You simply cannot rush the groundwork if you want a floor that looks perfect and lasts for decades.

Our process for this Bromley-by-Bow installation followed our tried and tested approach:

  • Thorough cleaning of the existing subfloor to remove all debris and contaminants
  • Priming to ensure proper adhesion of the subsequent layers
  • Latex screeding to create a perfectly level surface
  • 24-hour drying period—patience is essential at this stage
  • Sanding to a smooth finish once fully cured
  • Final cleaning before the marmoleum is laid

It’s a process that takes time, but the results speak for themselves. When you’re working with sheet linoleum, any imperfection in the subfloor will telegraph through to the surface. There’s nowhere to hide poor preparation work.

Planning the Layout

Before we touched a single roll of marmoleum, we sat down with our client to discuss exactly how the floor would be laid. Where would the seams fall? How would we handle the transitions between rooms? What about those tricky areas around pipework and alcoves?

These conversations matter enormously. A well-planned layout means seams fall in logical places—ideally in lower-traffic areas or along natural sight lines where they become virtually invisible. We templated the more complex sections to ensure precision cuts around obstacles, leaving nothing to chance.

The Installation

With the subfloor perfectly prepared and our layout planned, the actual fitting is where our experience really shows. Marmoleum sheet requires careful handling—it needs to acclimatise to the room temperature, and the adhesive must be applied at exactly the right coverage rate.

The temperature on installation day was on the cooler side, but comfortably within working parameters. Linoleum becomes less flexible in cold conditions, which can make it challenging to work with, but spring sunshine kept the rooms warm enough for a smooth installation.

The result? Absolutely solid, completely flat, and genuinely beautiful. The Berlin Red flows seamlessly from the hallway through to the main living spaces, creating a cohesive look that ties the entire floor together.

London’s Go-To Linoleum Specialists

We’re not exaggerating when we say that marmoleum installation has become something of a specialism for us at Cavendish deVere. Over the past few years, we’ve built a reputation as the company to call when you want linoleum fitted properly in London.

The numbers tell the story—we’re now receiving around ten enquiries per week specifically for linoleum installations, and we’ve expanded to run two dedicated teams focusing solely on this type of flooring. It’s a testament to the renewed interest in this sustainable, durable, and frankly gorgeous material.

Why Marmoleum Continues to Win Hearts

For those unfamiliar with marmoleum, it’s worth explaining why this material has experienced such a renaissance. Made primarily from linseed oil, wood flour, and natural resins on a jute backing, it’s one of the most environmentally friendly flooring options available. It’s also incredibly hardwearing—properly installed marmoleum can last thirty years or more.

Add to that the extraordinary colour range available from manufacturers like Forbo, and you can understand why architects, interior designers, and homeowners are increasingly specifying it for both residential and commercial projects.

Another Delighted Client

Walking through the finished space with our client, their reaction confirmed everything we already knew—this floor was a triumph. The Berlin Red makes a statement without overwhelming the neutral walls, and the quality of the installation means it will look this good for years to come.

If you’re considering linoleum flooring for your London property, whether it’s a bold colour like this or something more understated, we’d love to hear from you. With our dedicated lino fitting teams and meticulous approach to preparation, we deliver results that speak for themselves.
