Rapid Faux Sisal Carpet Installation for Shop Fitters in Waterloo, SE1
At Cavendish deVere, we pride ourselves on being able to tackle flooring projects of all sizes. Whilst we certainly enjoy the grand installations and complex commercial fit-outs, there’s something rather satisfying about helping out a trusted client in a pinch. This recent project in Waterloo, SE1, was exactly that sort of job – a quick turnaround carpet installation for a shop fitting company we’ve worked with for years.
When Good Clients Need a Helping Hand
We’ve completed numerous projects for this particular shop fitting firm over the years, and they’ve always been a pleasure to work with. So when they rang us explaining they were running behind schedule on a project and needed a cost-effective carpet solution installed at short notice, we were more than happy to step in. In the flooring trade, we sometimes call these urgent replacement jobs a ‘dig out’ – when a client needs flooring removed and replaced quickly to meet tight deadlines.
The team at this shop fitting company were understandably anxious about their timeline, but we assured them that this would most certainly not be their Waterloo! Our experienced fitters Hasan and Usman were dispatched to the site to assess the situation and get cracking straight away.
The Project Brief
The scope of work was relatively straightforward, which is often the case with these rapid-response projects. Our brief was to:
- Uplift and remove the existing flooring
- Retain the Cloud 9 underlay already in place, which was in perfectly good condition
- Supply, cut and fit a new faux sisal carpet
- Adhere using grip and pin method
- Clean and clear upon completion
Being able to keep the existing underlay was a sensible decision that helped keep costs down for the client. Cloud 9 is a quality underlay product, and when it’s still in good nick, there’s no sense in replacing it unnecessarily. This approach reflects our commitment to providing honest, practical advice – we’re not in the business of selling people things they don’t need.
Choosing the Right Carpet
For this carpet installation and fitting Waterloo project, we selected a faux sisal carpet that would deliver the natural, textured aesthetic the space required without the maintenance challenges that come with genuine sisal. The product chosen was the Balta Pearl Herringbone Designer Style – a beautiful polypropylene carpet that mimics the look of natural fibres whilst offering superior durability and stain resistance.
This herringbone pattern adds a touch of sophistication to any commercial space, and the pearl colourway provides a neutral, contemporary backdrop that complements virtually any interior design scheme. It’s an ideal choice for shop fit-outs where the flooring needs to look smart without drawing attention away from the merchandise or displays.
The Installation Process
Hasan and Usman arrived on site ready to work efficiently. The first task was to carefully uplift the old carpet, taking care not to damage the Cloud 9 underlay beneath. This requires a methodical approach – rushing this stage can lead to tears or damage that would necessitate underlay replacement, adding both cost and time to the project.
With the old carpet removed and disposed of, our fitters inspected the underlay thoroughly. As expected, it was in excellent condition and perfectly suitable for reuse. The existing gripper rods around the perimeter were also checked and deemed fit for purpose.
Next came the precision work of cutting and fitting the new faux sisal carpet. The herringbone pattern requires careful attention during installation to ensure the pattern runs consistently throughout the space and any seams are as invisible as possible. Our fitters have years of experience with patterned carpets, so this presented no difficulties.
The carpet was secured using the traditional grip and pin method – stretched over the gripper rods at the edges and pinned securely in place. This technique ensures a taut, professional finish with no buckling or rippling, even in high-traffic areas.
A Job Well Done
True to our word, the installation was completed swiftly and efficiently. Upon completion, Hasan and Usman thoroughly cleaned the area, removing all debris and leaving the space ready for the shop fitters to continue their work. That’s another thing we take seriously at Cavendish deVere – we never leave a mess for others to deal with.
The client was absolutely delighted with the result. The new carpet transformed the space, providing a clean, professional aesthetic that would serve the end client well. More importantly for our shop fitting friends, they were able to get back on schedule and meet their project deadline.
No Job Too Small
This project is a perfect example of why we value our long-standing client relationships. We’re always happy to help out when valued customers need us, regardless of the size of the job. Whether it’s a major commercial installation spanning thousands of square metres or a quick carpet replacement to help someone out of a tight spot, we approach every project with the same level of professionalism and care.
If you’re looking for reliable, skilled flooring installation in South London – whether it’s an urgent job or a planned project – do get in touch. We shoot rabbits as well as big game, as they say in the trade. No project is too small for the Cavendish deVere team.
