It\u2019s not always the glamorous jobs we take on at Cavendish De Vere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There are no sunlit penthouses, no sweeping reception areas, no dramatic before-and-after photos that stop you scrolling. Sometimes, the work that matters most happens quietly, out of hours, and far from view.<\/p>\n

This was one of those jobs.<\/p>\n

In the early hours of the morning, deep beneath street level in a basement kitchen in Holborn, WC2, we were tasked with repairing and replacing a small but critical section of vinyl safety flooring \u2014 including cap and cove detail \u2014 in a live commercial environment.<\/p>\n

The Setting<\/h3>\n

Basement kitchens are a world of their own.<\/p>\n

Dark. Dingy. A little bit smelly. Definitely greasy. But, importantly, generally clean<\/strong> \u2014 the kind of place where you might not want to linger, but where you\u2019d still say, \u201cYes, we\u2019d eat here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s exactly the point.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t a neglected space. It was a hard-working kitchen, operating long hours, producing food safely day in and day out. The floor hadn\u2019t failed because of poor hygiene or lack of care \u2014 it had failed because vinyl safety <\/a>floors in commercial kitchens take a beating<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Heat. Moisture. Chemicals. Constant foot traffic. Trolleys. Heavy equipment. It all adds up.<\/p>\n

The damaged area was small, but it mattered.<\/p>\n

Why a \u201cSmall Patch\u201d Is Never Small<\/h3>\n

In environments like this, flooring isn\u2019t decorative \u2014 it\u2019s functional infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A compromised section of safety vinyl or cap and cove detail isn\u2019t just unsightly; it\u2019s a hygiene risk, a slip risk, and a compliance issue. Water ingress behind vinyl, broken welds, or lifted edges can quickly become a problem far bigger than the original damage.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the client needed the repair done:<\/p>\n
