Another interesting job today fitting a specialist Marmoleum floor into a bathroom. It had some laminate on the floor which wasn’t bad but it isn’t in the same league as Marmoleum, of course, which was a beautiful matt black colour.

We pulled up and removed the laminate and then plyed the floor to make it very flat for the Linoleum. Then we screeded the floor so the lino would adhere perfectly leavng no indentations and a very smooth finish.

Next we templated the floor and cut the Marmoleum to fit and finally we fitted it. And it looks beautiful.

Marmoleum is the Brand name of Forbo and is pretty much good old fashioned linoleum. It’s made into sheets or tiles from a compound of linseed oil, rosins, cork flour, limestone and wood flour and then stuck to a jute backing. These ingredients create a very environmentally-friendly product that becomes tougher and more durable over time. In fact it is quite rittle whn not attached to a floor and that is why it requires a specialist fitting by a trained expert. It needs to be templated and carefully cut.

Naturally occurring anti-bacteria and anti-static properties are added to the mix to help the flooring resist dust and inhibit the growth of germs that cause disease and that’s what makes it a wonderful flooring materials especially in bathrooms and kitchens.
