Stunning Sisal-Effect Carpet Installation for Stairs, Landings and Bedrooms in Upper Clapton, E5
We recently completed a beautiful carpet installation London project in Upper Clapton, E5, transforming a property’s stairs, landings and two bedrooms with the elegant Alternative Flooring Carpet Herringbone Re-act. This faux sisal carpet offers the sophisticated natural look of traditional sisal with enhanced durability and comfort underfoot—a perfect choice for high-traffic areas like staircases.
Our client was looking for a flooring solution that would bring warmth and character to their home whilst withstanding the demands of daily life. The herringbone weave pattern creates visual interest and texture, complementing the property’s period features including the traditional white-painted spindles and warm wooden doors visible in the hallway.
The Project Scope
This installation encompassed several distinct areas throughout the property, each requiring careful measurement and precise cutting to achieve a flawless finish:
Stair Runner Installation
The staircase presented an interesting challenge with its combination of eight winder stairs and six straight treads. Winder stairs—those triangular steps that allow a staircase to turn a corner—require particular expertise to fit correctly. Each winder must be individually templated and cut to ensure the carpet lies flat without bunching or stretching.
Our fitters carefully adhered the underlay to each stair tread before fitting short pin grippers along the edges. The carpet was then secured using our grip and pin method, ensuring a tight, professional finish that will remain stable for years to come.
Landing Areas
The landing installation covered approximately five square metres across two sections. The first section measured 167cm by 80cm, whilst the second section—which connected to the bedroom corridors—measured 107cm by 153cm. Ensuring seamless transitions between these areas required careful planning to maintain the herringbone pattern alignment throughout.
Bedroom Carpeting
Both bedrooms received the same luxurious carpet treatment, creating a cohesive flow throughout the upper floor. Bedroom one, measuring 319cm by 242cm, required a cut of 4m by 2.5m (approximately 10 square metres with allowance for fitting). Bedroom two was slightly larger at 319cm by 273cm, requiring a 4m by 2.85m cut totalling around 12 square metres.
Each bedroom was fitted using our close-fit method with wall-to-wall gripper rods, ensuring the carpet sits perfectly against the skirting boards with no gaps or lifting edges.
Installation Methodology
As specialists in commercial flooring Wimbledon and residential installations across London, we pride ourselves on our meticulous approach to every project. For this Upper Clapton installation, we followed our tried-and-tested grip and pin methodology.
With no existing carpet to remove, we began by fitting wall-to-wall gripper rods around the perimeter of each room and along the stair edges. Quality underlay was then cut to size and adhered in place—on the stairs, this means securing the underlay to each tread and riser to prevent any movement.
One detail that truly elevates a stair carpet installation is how the edges are treated. Rather than leaving raw carpet edges visible against the spindles, our fitters carefully turned the carpet at each step edge. This creates a clean, finished appearance that looks smart from every angle—whether you’re walking up the stairs or admiring them from the hallway below.
Short pin grippers were fitted along the stair nosings, and the carpet was stretched over and secured onto these grippers. The combination of grip fixings and adhesive bonding to the underlay creates an installation that won’t shift, wrinkle or come loose with daily use.
Why Alternative Flooring Herringbone Re-act?
The client’s choice of the Alternative Flooring Carpet Herringbone Re-act range was an excellent one for this property. This faux sisal carpet offers several advantages over natural sisal:
- Softer underfoot – Traditional sisal can feel rough, whereas this synthetic alternative provides greater comfort
- Easier maintenance – Unlike natural fibres that can stain permanently when wet, this carpet is more forgiving with spills
- Consistent appearance – The herringbone pattern remains crisp and defined throughout the product
- Durability – Ideal for stairs and landings where foot traffic is concentrated
The neutral, warm tone of this particular colourway works beautifully with both the white paintwork and the natural wood elements visible throughout the property. It’s a timeless choice that will look elegant for years to come.
A Delighted Client
Upon completion, we thoroughly cleaned the installation area and cleared away all waste materials, leaving the property ready to enjoy immediately. Our client was absolutely delighted with the finished result—and looking at the photographs, it’s easy to see why.
The herringbone pattern flows elegantly up the staircase, with each winder step expertly fitted to maintain the visual continuity. The landings and bedrooms now feel unified with the stair runner, creating a sense of cohesion throughout the upper floor.
